(12/6/2001) Similar to the hybris worm, here's another worm that frequently gets mistaken fore junk e-mail, but is a serious threat.

The message will probably appear to be coming from someone you know and contains an attachment that looks like a windows screen saver, but is really a fast-spreading worm. Worms are similar to viruses, but their principle damage is self-replication. "Goner," as this worm has been dubbed by virus experts, deletes certain system files that make your system safe from remote attacks then sends copies of itself using your e-mail address book and ICQ software (if installed). It is particularly destructive to e-mail servers because they can be overwhelmed by the volume of mail these worms create.
